About the artist Dorothée Widmer

What painting does to me: When I paint, I burn from passion. It starts with a vision or emotion. In a creative and dynamic process the art ends up on my canvas.
What art is for me: Passion, emotion, creativity and spiritual inspiration that blows up all borders. In art we find a creative expression in everything. By looking at art heart, soul and spirit are touched. Art is liberating and leaves up scope for interpretation.
What painting has to do with my work in the red light district: In my childhood I experienced religious, emotional and sexual abuse. On the lowest point I met god with all his healing and restoration.
Since we founded Heartwings, I started telling stories about my life and everyday work, through my pictures. Art is stronger then the boundry of not having a common language. Like this, peolpe working in the red light district, understand us with no words. Their hearts are moved and their reaction is intense. That is why we started integration art into our work and publications.
